By default, the loader requires that the number of fields in a record type is both known and fixed.
If one or more empty trailing fields are likely to be omitted completely (without any corresponding field delimiters) then the loader can append empty fields up to a specified field count, such that a record with less than the required fields is padded to contain exactly the fields needed with all appended trailing fields empty.
The number of fields in a record is counted after source fields have been ignored (‘i’ switch) and before any virtual fields have been added (‘J’ switch).
This feature is useful when loading different record types into a single table with generic columns – every record can be expanded with null columns to match the number of columns in the table.
Use the ‘O’ switch to handle omitted trailing fields.
