Local tables are used to capture event messages from geo-distributed sources where each instance node contains a distinct set of rows in a given local table.

Global tables contain data that is common across the network and global tables typically contain reference data.

Local tables and global tables can be likened to fact and dimension tables in a conventional data warehouse star schema.
